BIDEN Says US 'Embarrassed' EU into SANCTIONING  RUSSIAN Over UKRAINE . . .

America’s leadership had to embarrass Europe to impose economic hits on Russia over the crisis in Ukraine – even though the EU was opposed to such a motion, US Vice President Joe Biden revealed during a speech at Harvard.

“We’ve given Putin a simple choice: Respect Ukraine’s sovereignty or face increasing consequences,” Biden told a gathering at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at Harvard University's Institute of Politics on Thursday.

The consequences were the sanctions which the EU imposed on Russia, first targeting individual politicians and businessmen deemed responsible for the crisis in Ukraine, then switching to the energy, defense, and economic sectors.

“It is true they did not want to do that,” Biden admitted.

“It was America’s leadership and the president of the United States insisting, oft times almost having to embarrass Europe to stand up and take economic hits to impose costs,” the US vice president declared.

Kos ‘costs’ dianggap belakang terjun bersejarah ruble bukan sahaja terpaksa ExxonMobil Amerika untuk berundur dari Rusia Artik rak, tetapi juga menimbulkan balas langkah dari Moscow, yang digantung ‘suspended’ import makanan tertentu daripada EU.

Balas sekatan Rusia telah melanda banyak negara2 pertanian EU. Ahli Kesatuan Eropah, terutamanya mereka yg rapat dgn Rusia, adalah yg paling terjejas dengan kehilangan pasaran Rusia.

Sebagai contoh, Belanda - pengeksport yang ke-2 terbesar di DUNIA produk-produk pertanian - bakal kehilangan € 300 Juta euro setiap tahun dari perniagaan yg dibatalkan dengan Rusia, kerana ia menyumbang kira-kira 10 % peratus daripada eksport Belanda sayur-sayuran, buah-buahan, dan daging.

Pada masa yang sama, Poland telah terjejas teruk oleh sekatan Kremlin, eksport makanan ke Rusia berjumlah $ 1.5 bilion pada 2013.

Sepanyol, pengeksport besar oren ke Rusia, dianggarkan ketinggalan 337 juta euro ($ 421 Juta) dlm makanan & pertanian jualan, manakala Itali menganggarkan kerugian hampir 1 bilion euro ($ 1.2 bilion).

Berikutan tekanan daripada petani tempatan, yg €125 Juta euro dana Suruhanjaya EU Dasar Pertanian Bersama tlh ditubuhkan, dari mana penanam dijangka untuk mendapatkan wang tunai, manakala Amsterdam sanggup menampung kos meng-angkut hasil melebihi 8 bank makanan di Belanda.

Secara keseluruhannya, satu tahun sekatan makanan Moscow terhadap Kesatuan Eropah, Amerika Syarikat, Norway, Australia, dan Kanada akan menyekat satu anggaran bernilai $ 9 billion eksport pertanian ke Rusia.

Dengan negara-negara Eropah kerugian ‘loss’ dengan epal dan lebihan tenusu, ia tidak betul-betul jelas sama ada pengeluar EU akan dapat kembali ke pasaran Rusia selepas pengharaman satu tahun tamat ‘expires’.

Those costs deemed behind the ruble's historic plunge not only forced America’s ExxonMobil to retreat from Russia’s Arctic shelf, but also provoked counter-measures from Moscow, which suspended certain food imports from the EU.

Russia’s counter-sanctions have hit many of the EU’s agricultural states. EU members, particularly those close to Russia, were the most affected by the loss of the Russian market.

For instance, the Netherlands – the world’s second-largest exporter of agricultural products – is set to lose 300 million euro annually from canceled business with Russia, as it accounts for roughly 10 percent of Dutch exports of vegetables, fruit, and meat.

At the same time, Poland was hit hard by the Kremlin’s sanctions, as its food exports to Russia totaled $1.5 billion in 2013.

Spain, a large exporter of oranges to Russia, is estimated to miss out on 337 million euro ($421 million) in food and agriculture sales, while Italy has estimated its losses at nearly 1 billion euro ($1.2 billion).

Following pressure from local farmers, a 125 million euro EU Commission Common Agricultural Policy fund was established, from which the growers are expected to get some cash, while Amsterdam is willing to cover the cost of transporting excess produce to eight food banks across Holland.

Overall, Moscow’s one-year food embargo against the EU, the US, Norway, Australia, and Canada will block an estimated $9 billion worth of agricultural exports to Russia.

With European countries now at a loss with apple and dairy surplus, it is not exactly clear whether EU producers will be able to return to the Russian markets after the one-year ban expires.

However, this is no secret to the US, as Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland remarked on Thursday.

“Implementing sanctions isn’t easy and many countries are paying a steep price. We know that. But history shows that the cost of inaction and disunity in the face of a determined aggressor will be higher,” Nuland said.

Nuland dicatatkan sebagai berkata frasa terkenal dikenali semasa panggilan telefon dengan Duta Amerika Syarikat ke Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt, kerana yang kedua-dua seolah-olah telah membincangkan Amerika Syarikat lebih suka barisan kerajaan Ukraine.

Ia nampaknya merujuk kepada perbezaan dasar Washington dgn yg digunakan oleh EU mengenai cara-cara mengendalikan krisis politik Ukraine, dengan Nuland mencadangkan utk "gam perkara ini" dgn bantuan PBB & mengabaikan Brussels.

Jabatan Negara Amerika Syarikat tidak menafikan kesahihan video tersebut dan menegaskan bahawa Nuland telah memohon maaf untuk "komen yang dilaporkan."

Nuland’s reference to necessary action against the “aggressor” might be taken with a grain of salt by the Europeans, as the “F**k the EU” leak is still fresh in their memory.

The four-minute video - titled ‘Maidan puppets,’ referring to Independence Square in Ukraine’s capital – was uploaded by an anonymous user to YouTube.

Nuland was recorded as saying the notoriously known phrase during a phone call with US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt, as the two were seemingly discussing a US-preferred line-up of the Ukrainian government.

It apparently referred to Washington’s policy differences with those of the EU on ways of handling the Ukrainian political crisis, with Nuland suggesting to “glue this thing” with the help of the UN and ignore Brussels.

The US State Department did not deny the authenticity of the video and stressed that Nuland had apologized for the “reported comments.”

BIDEN Blames US Allies in Middle EAST for RISE Of ISIS

US Vice-President Joe Biden has accused America’s key allies in the Middle East of allowing the rise of the Islamic State (IS), saying they supported extremists with money and weapons in their eagerness to oust the Assad regime in Syria.

America’s “biggest problem” in Syria is its regional allies, Biden told students at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University on Thursday.

“Our allies in the region were our largest problem in Syria,” he said, explaining that Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UAE were “so determined to take down Assad,” that in a sense they started a “proxy Sunni-Shia war” by pouring “hundreds of millions of dollars and tens of thousands of tons of weapons” towards anyone who would fight against Assad.

“And we could not convince our colleagues to stop supplying them,” said Biden, thus disassociating the US from unleashing the civil war in Syria.

“The outcome of such a policy now is more visible,” he said, as it turned out they supplied extremists from Al-Nusra Front and Al-Qaeda.

All of a sudden the regional powers that sponsored anti-Assad rebels awakened to the dawn of a major international security threat in the face of ISIS – now called Islamic State. After being essentially thrown out of Iraq it found open space and territory in eastern Syria and established close ties with the Al-Nusra Front which the US had earlier declared a terrorist group.

Now Washington needs a coalition of Sunni states to fight the Islamic State because “America can't once again go in to Muslim nation and be the aggressor, it has to be led by Sunnis, to attack a Sunni organization [the IS],” Biden said, acknowledging that it is for the first time that the US uses a geopolitical strategy.

“Even if we wanted it to be, it cannot be our fight alone,” Biden said. “This cannot be turned into a US ground war against another Arab nation in the Middle East.”

“But of what I’m more astonished is of his apparent amnesia about what America and Britain were trying to ferment in Syria only a year ago. They were not only putting staff intelligence personnel on the ground, and providing logistical support to the rebels in Syria; they were spearheading the campaign to try to oust Assad,” former MI5 agent Annie Machon told RT.

She added that “Perhaps, the Vice President is finally learning some lessons from history. It does not matter who you think your friends are going to be in the region. Very often they will be taken over or subsumed into a more radical group.”

Google says it has deleted “tens of thousands” of naked pictures of celebrities that had been stolen and published online. The statement comes after a Hollywood entertainment lawyer threatened to sue the web giant for “violating privacy.”

The tech company insisted it responds to privacy breach requests “within hours,” and confirmed it had already closed “hundreds of accounts.”

The reaction comes after a group of lawyers threatened to address Google’s “failure to remove the pictures.” The LA-based team is acting on behalf of female celebrities whose images were hacked and posted online, though exact names were not disclosed.

The group threatened to sue the internet search giant for $100 million.

A copy of the lawyers' statement, addressed to Google CEO Larry Page and its co-founder Sergey Brin, was run on various sites – including the New York Post – and is titled “Google’s Repeat Copyright And Privacy Violations in Connection with Hacked Photo Scandal.”

Google is “making millions and profiting from the victimisation of women” by allowing the pictures to be displayed on a host of Google-owned services, including video-sharing site YouTube and blogging platform Blogspot, the statement says.

The letter was sent after a third wave of images of female celebrities was posted online, which included a picture of Cara Delevingne. The third batch was posted just one week after a second group of pictures appeared, which included images of Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.

Last month, more than 100 stars were the target of hackers who posted their naked pictures on the website 4Chan, including two pictures of 'The Hunger Games' star Jennifer Lawrence.

Hollywood entertainment lawyer Marty Singer, who has represented John Travolta and Charlie Sheen, has demanded that Google pay damages for “perpetuating the despicable conduct of these habitual pervert predators.”

Singer accused Google of “blatantly unethical behavior,” adding that his female clients would seek damages.

The attorney also accused Google of a tardy response in removing the pictures, adding that they capitalized on the scandal.

“Because the victims are celebrities with valuable publicity rights you do nothing – nothing but collect millions of dollars in advertising revenue . . . as you seek to capitalize on this scandal rather than quash it,” he wrote.

Singer said he requested that Google delete the images four weeks ago, but that they are still on the search engine and other Google-owned sites such as YouTube and Blogspot.

But a spokesperson for Google shot back, saying the company deals with privacy issues “in hours not weeks.”

“We’ve removed tens of thousands of pictures within hours of the requests being made – and we have closed hundreds of accounts. The internet is used for many good things. Stealing people’s private photos is not one of them,” the spokesperson said.

Google added that it typically removes images when it receives valid copyright notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

WANmahani - Tentera Amerika Syarikat telah dipanggil dari carian untuk Marin hilang, yang kini dianggap mati. Ahli anak kapal akan menjadi mangsa pertama di Amerika dalam kempen pengeboman terhadap Negara Islam.

The US military has called off its search for a missing Marine, who is now presumed dead. The aircrew member would be the first American casualty in the bombing campaign against the Islamic State.

The Marine was aboard an MV-22 Osprey participating in flight operations in support of the mission against the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL) on Wednesday. The aircraft lost power on takeoff from the USS Makin Island in the North Arabian Gulf, and looked as if it might crash, the Navy reported.

The missing man and another enlisted aircrew member bailed into the sea before the pilot was able to regain control and safely land aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship.

"Ada 4 orang di atas kapal pesawat ketika berlepas, 2 juruterbang dan 2 menye-naraikan anak kapal. Marin itu hilang adalah salah satu daripada 2 menyena-raikan anak kapal yg keluar dari pesawat itu apabila ia muncul Osprey mungkin terhempas ke dalam laut," kata kenyataan ‘statement’ Tentera Laut.

Tentera Laut Amerika Syarikat, Kor Marin & Pengawal Pantai kakitangan mem-ulakan operasi mencari dan menyelamat yang luas serta-merta, pulih satu daripada 2 anak kapal. Proses yang digunakan "semua aset yg ada, yang berte-rusan sepanjang malam dan keesokan harinya," kata kenyataan itu diteruskan.

Carian berakhir Jumaat pada 15:00 GMT, "selepas usaha menjejakinya tidak berjaya," kata tentera. "The Marine dianggap hilang di laut."

"There were four personnel aboard the aircraft when it took off, two pilots and two enlisted aircrew. The lost Marine was one of the two enlisted aircrew who exited the aircraft when it appeared the Osprey might crash into the ocean," the Navy said in a statement.

US Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard personnel began an extensive search-and-rescue operation immediately, recovering one of the two crew members. The process used “all available assets, which continued throughout the night and the next day,” the statement continued.

The search ended Friday at 3:00 p.m. GMT, “after efforts to locate him were unsuccessful,” the military said. “The Marine is presumed lost at sea.”

"Selaras dengan Jabatan Negara Amerika Syarikat dasar pertahanan, nama Marin akan ditahan sehingga 24 jam selepas pemberitahuan ahli keluarga," kata kenya-taan itu dibaca.

Marine yg ke-2 telah pulih agak cepat. Beliau dalam keadaan stabil di atas kapal tersebut, dan Tentera Laut sedang menyiasat punca kemalangan itu.

MV-22 Osprey memperoleh reputasi sebagai tidak boleh dipercayai dan sukar untuk terbang, & mempunyai "sejarah pembangunan bermasalah yg termasuk banyak kemalangan maut," Checkpoint blog Washington Post melaporkan.

“In accordance with U.S. Department of Defense policy, the name of the Marine will be withheld until 24 hours after family member notification,” the statement read.

The second Marine was recovered relatively quickly. He is in stable condition on board the ship, and the Navy is investigating the cause of the mishap.

The MV-22 Osprey acquired a reputation of being unreliable and difficult to fly, and had a “troubled development history that included numerous deadly crashes,” the Washington Post’s Checkpoint blog reported.

2 tahun yg lalu, penduduk di Okinawa, Jepun yg membantah penggunaan Ospreys ‘protested a deployment of Ospreys’ kepada pangkalan tentera Amerika Syarikat Futemma kerana masih terdapat pepijat utk bekerja di reka btk helikopter hibrid kapal terbang pesawat, aktivis hak asasi manusia Ryan Dawson mem-beritahu RT pada masa itu.

"Bagi mereka ini untuk membawa MV-22s adalah sangat berbahaya. Ia boleh jatuh di atas kepala seseorang, dan yang tidak keterlaluan, "kata Dawson. "Mereka tidak bekerja, mereka sangat mahal dan sangat berbahaya."

USS Makin Island adalah pd penggunaan dijadualkan ke kawasan Amerika Sya-rikat 5 Armada tanggungjawab di Timur Tengah di bawah Amerika Syarikat Perintah Tengah.

Pulau Makin amfibia kumpulan siap (ARG) memulakan dengan unsur-unsur Marin ekspedisi ke-11 Unit Camp Pendleton, California untuk menyokong operasi di Iraq dan Syria, dan di seluruh rantau ini.

Two years ago, residents in Okinawa, Japan protested a deployment of Ospreys to the US Futemma military base because there were still bugs to be worked out in the aircraft’s hybrid helicopter-airplane design, human rights activist Ryan Dawson told RT at the time.

“For them to bringing these MV-22s is very dangerous. It could fall on someone’s head, and that is not an exaggeration,” Dawson said. “They don’t work, they are very expensive and very dangerous.”

The USS Makin Island is on a scheduled deployment to the US 5th Fleet area of responsibility in the Middle East under US Central Command. Makin Island amphibious ready group (ARG) embarked with elements of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit Camp Pendleton, California to support operations in Iraq and Syria, and throughout the region.

The three-ship, 4,000-troop ARG left its San Diego home on July 25. The group can be used for a wide range of crisis-response capabilities, including disaster relief and combat operations, and is often referred to as a “Swiss Army Knife” for its flexibility, Stars and Stripes reported.

Residents of Donetsk, a restive city in eastern Ukraine, have learnt to expect the worst, so the first place they go to look for their loved ones if they disappear is the morgue. After recent shellings, the grim trips are the new reality for the city.

Lyuba, 70, has come to look for her husband, who went to the shop and never returned home. The shop is in the Kievsky district, where the fatal shelling of a school and bus stop took place on Wednesday. The area is just south of the airport which has been seeing an increasing standoff between militias and Kiev troops.

“I told you not to go! Killed . . . By a bomb . . . ,” Lyuba found her husband, though cannot quite believe he is dead.

“Natasha?” the old woman phones her daughter in tears. “He’s dead. I’m at the morgue.”

Her husband, 76-year-old Nikolay, was among 13 civilians killed in the latest shelling, bringing the total death toll in the region to over 1,400 people.

The number is set to rise, the head of Donetsk’s main morgue Dmitry Kalashnikov told RT.

Sebagai kebuntuan ini berterusan, pekerja Palang Merah terbunuh dalam serangan meriam berhampiran pejabat Donetsk organisasi pada hari Khamis. Rusia meng-gesa siasatan menyeluruh dan objektif ke dalam perkara itu.

Ia datang pada latar belakang gencatan senjata yang ditaja pada 5 September di Minsk. Pada hari Jumaat, EU berkata ia bimbang bahawa gencatan senjata yang mungkin akan dilanggar dan dipanggil untuk menghormati ianya.

"Kita bimbang gencatan senjata tlh dilanggar. Kami bergantung kpd gencatan senjata untuk dihormati kerana ia adalah syarat yang perlu membenarkan proses damai untuk bergerak ke hadapan, OSCE dan pekerja Palang Merah bekerja di sana, "kata Soren Liborius, ketua jabatan maklumat EU.

“Twenty bodies have arrived at the morgue over the past 24 hours. Among them are 11 civilians, who were killed by shell explosions. I find it hard to call this a ceasefire,” he said.

“Last week there were many civilian deaths, and I'm not even counting the soldiers,” Kalashnikov added.

It comes as the self-defense forces fight with the Ukrainian army over the city’s airport, with black smoke coming from the site and the sounds of heavy artillery heard.

As the standoff continues, a Red Cross employee was killed in artillery shelling near the Donetsk office of the organization on Thursday. Russia is calling for a thorough and objective investigation into the matter.

It comes on the backdrop of the ceasefire brokered on September 5 in Minsk. On Friday, the EU said it is concerned that the truce may get breached and called to respect it.

“We are worried that the truce has been breached. We count on the truce to be respected because it is a necessary condition allowing the peace process to move forward, the OSCE and the Red Cross employees to work there,” Soren Liborius, the head of EU information department, said.
